چکیده

Understanding seasonal changes in soil microbial quotient (qMB, i.e., the MBC-to-SOC ratio) along altitudinal gradients and their dominant drivers is essential for determining effects of environmental on organic carbon pool. A 3-year situ core incubation experiment was thus conducted a dry valley shrub, valley-mountain ecotone forest, subalpine coniferous an alpine meadow across 2,431-m gradient eastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Soil qMB layer (OL) mineral (ML) measured at five critical periods. The average significantly higher than other sites, with no significant difference among sites. this region less global value (1.2%), indicating that pool local ecosystem has stability lower mineralization potential ecosystems globally. Seasonal variations differed gradient. Significant increases during were mainly observed OL altitudes, implying increased sensitivity to changes. Microbial biomass freeze-thaw cycles factors pattern qMB. regime under climate change scenarios will alter balance between SOC assimilation maintenance respiration demands, affecting biogeochemical cycling mountainous ecosystems.

Soil Microbial Biomass Determination

Basic Idea: The quantity of microbial biomass in a given soil sample is inherently difficult to measure. To some degree, any measurement of microbial biomass is relative – different methodologies or variations in methodologies will yield microbial biomass estimates that are not directly comparable. For this reason, if you want to measure microbial biomass – choose a method and stick with it exa...

Altitudinal Gradient of Microbial Biomass Phosphorus and Its Relationship with Microbial Biomass Carbon, Nitrogen, and Rhizosphere Soil Phosphorus on the Eastern Slope of Gongga Mountain, SW China

Microbial biomass phosphorus (MBP) is one of the most active forms of phosphorus (P) in soils. MBP plays an important role in the biogeochemical P cycle. To explore MBP distribution and its relationship with other factors, the MBP and rhizosphere soil P concentrations and fractions in six vegetation zones on the eastern slope of Gongga Mountain in SW China were investigated. The MBP distributio...

Seasonal Dynamics of Soil Microbial Biomass C and N along an Elevational Gradient on the Eastern Tibetan Plateau, China

Little information is available on the seasonal response of soil microbial biomass to climate warming even though it is very sensitive to climate change. A two-year field experiment was conducted in the subalpine and alpine forests of the eastern Tibetan Plateau, China. The intact soil cores from 3,600 m site were incubated in three elevations (3,000 m, 3,300 m and 3,600 m) to simulate climate ...

Vegetation composition and soil microbial community structural changes along a wetland hydrological gradient

Fluctuations in wetland hydrology create an interplay between aerobic and anaerobic conditions, controlling vegetation composition and microbial community structure and activity in wetland soils. In this study, we investigated the vegetation composition and microbial community structural and functional changes along a wetland hydrological gradient. Two different vegetation communities were dist...
